I’ve just come back from a week on tour with English National Ballet in Chicago. We went there to perform Akram Khan’s Giselle at the Harris Theatre.
I had an amazing time reconnecting with friends and family. I consider myself very fortunate to have such a strong support system, I honestly don’t know what I would do without them.
While I was there I was lucky enough to be able to take class with the Joffrey Ballet, thanks to my friend Cara! We did a bit of an exchange, I went to her company and then she came to us to take class! It was a great experience to see how our companies work and meet the dancers. While I was in her city, Cara took me to a few lovely places for dinner and drinks, which I would highly recommend visiting if you’re ever in Chicago. We went to Cindy’s, the rooftop bar of the Chicago Athletic Association, which has amazing views of the city, and to a restaurant called The Gage.
At this point in the week, my family arrived and, after attending a lovely opening night reception at the theatre, I met up with them at Giordano’s, a great pizzeria known for its deep dish pizza.
Since it’s the dead of winter in that part of the world, I saw a lot of the city from the inside of buildings. Although we did visit Cloudgate, also known as “The Bean”, in Millenium Park.
After one of the performances, I met up with my cousin and his partner, and we went for a late lunch at the Tavern at the Park. I had a lovely lunch and an unforgettable Flourless Chocolate cake…it was the size of my face !!
It was a great experience performing for an American audience after seven years away, and seeing them respond so well to the production, but it was the most special feeling knowing that I had members of my family in the audience! I’ll be eternally grateful to them for coming and spending quality time together in the freezing cold!
Love you guys with all my heart!
Until next time,
Adriana xx
Loved your blog. When are you performing in New York? It’s so cool having a celebrity in the family.
